AGONIA Main
Method

Python / OpenCV / Raspberry Pi

Outcome

Digital painting shifting based on user gaze

Feature

Reinterpretation of Rodin's The Thinker

Timeline

3 Weeks • Solo Project

Awakening

Stage 1 / Dormant
The artwork rests in a solitary loop (111.gif), unaware of the viewer and waiting for the spark of human attention.

Stage 2 / Recognition
A precision algorithm tracks the pupil to confirm a direct gaze. This triggers the awakening sequence.

Stage 3 / Engagement
Engaged, it holds a visual dialogue ("ODAK" loop). The connection lasts only as long as the gaze; if lost, it instantly resets. Molding fruit acts as a dynamic indicator of time, corrupting with every loop to represent the internal rot of unfulfilled purpose.

The Brain

Face Detection
The algorithm scans the camera's feed. Upon facial detection, it locates the eyes and pupil positions, distinguishing casual presence from focused viewing.

Hardware Stack
Displayed on a 7-inch Waveshare LCD screen. A Raspberry Pi 4 acts as the brain running Python, paired with a Camera Module 2 acting as the system's eye.

Decay

The Frame
Layered paper over cardboard, sprayed imperfectly for a cold, old metal look. Sponged layers of gold, orange, and red paint replicate natural decay.

The Texture
Hairspray applied between coats causes the paint to bubble and crack, creating a rough, flaky surface mimicking actual rust. A complete story of slow damage.
