HARMAN

Interactive Installation, 2025

HARMAN Main
Method

Interactive projection mapping using carpet patterns

Outcome

7-region digital heritage experience with proximity audio

Inspiration

"Lost Songs of Anatolia" documentary film

Timeline

5 Weeks • Group Project

Interaction

1. Approach & Detection
The user approaches one of the regional openings. A proximity sensor immediately detects hand movement.

2. Audio & Visuals
A regional folk melody begins playing, while traditional pattern animation projects onto the wall.

3. Deep Engagement
As the user moves closer, the full vocal composition emerges, creating a dynamic, proximity-based audio experience.

Heritage

Visual Pattern Research
Research into traditional Anatolian carpet patterns across seven regions. We selected the most representative symbols for each region.

Design Translation
Traditional pattern analysis was digitally reinterpreted using pixel-art aesthetics. Patterns were adapted to maintain cultural recognition while enabling digital projection.

The System

Processing & Sound
Python is used for audiovisual processing and projection mapping. Three speakers provide a surround sound experience.

Sensors & Controls
Seven proximity sensors are built into a modular physical box. An Arduino Uno controls the sensors, feeding proximity data back to the system.
